Snowshoeing with Kenny

We are so lucky to have an awesome helper at our school named Kenny. He took our whole class snowshoeing last Thursday, and we had SO much fun!! The kids were very sweaty and pooped when we finally got the shoes off and came back to Challenger. We walked around behind Challenger and learned about the wetlands, woods, and the prairie. Thank you Kenny for taking us! We can't wait to go again.

Tucker the Singing Schnoodle

We watched this video in school today, and our cheeks hurt from laughing so hard after it was over! We thought you might enjoy watching it at home, too. The kids asked me today to post it to our blog!

:)Mrs. Delzer
P.S. I would believe that Madi Mae or Duds would do something like this at home while I am at school with your kids!! :) :)

Our JAM (Just a Minute) Video

After math stations this morning, the kids were ready for a break. We took 15 minutes to create our very first JAM (Just a Minute) video.  I learned about JAM's during my technology training as a much needed method used to burn off some extra energy and redirect students.  After we were done with this, Ben said. "I need a 5 hour energy." I couldn't help but laugh.  Since we are the Top Dogs, we had to JAM to "Who Let the Dogs Out"!

This Week's WOWs!

Today your child learned 3 new WOWs (wonderfully outstanding words) during our read aloud, Cuddly Dudley! We will practice them this week at school. Please do your best to say these words in your conversations at home so that your child can sign up for our Word Wizard at school. Thank you very much!

Another Special Mystery Reader - Holly Hoffman

In December, Holly Hoffman from the TV show Survivor, celebrated Polar Express Day with our class! She read The Polar Express to us via Skype, and answered all of the questions we had about her life on Survivor. She also talked to us about her life motto: Never Give Up. One week later, we received an autographed copy of the book she read, as well as individual autographs for each of the kids! How cool is that!?

Below is some information that Holly sent to me about what inspired her to audition for the TV show.

"I decided to apply for Survivor the summer of 2009 because I wanted a challenge and an adventure in my life. I was very fortunate to stay home and raise all three of our children and also started a swim team that I coached for 17 years - so basically it was something for myself. I actually wanted to see if I could get on the show. The average 100,000 people applying for the show each year so for me it was going to be a challenge just getting on. when I got the call from a casting director in LA I thought it was a joke. I deleted the call and didn't call him back. When he called me two days later, it then came to me that this is the real deal. I made the show and was fearful in the beginning. I was thinking, what did I get myself into. We were in Nicaragua and I had to survive with the clothes on my back. I wanted to quit on day 5, and was able to pull myself through and changed my attitude and started to believe in myself. I overcame the fear and sense of doubting myself and made it to the final 4, and was the last woman in the game. Since the show, I have become an inspirational speaker explaining to people what I took from the show and how important attitude, determination , desire, confidence and faith are in the real world. We are all surviving something and putting those 5 things together we can survive. I have also been traveling around the United States attending charity events for many organizations. I am loving what I am doing - inspiring and motivating others to never give up and follow their dreams."

THANK YOU HOLLY!!!!!

500 page views! WOW!

I hope you all enjoying your family time on this Sunday! I can't believe the ticker at the bottom of our page says that we have over 500 views! That is incredible! Thank you for your comments, emails, page views, and support! Our class is LOVING our blog. I came across a few pictures that brought me Sunday smiles, and I thought I'd share them so you can have some smiles, too! :) See you on Tuesday, Top Dogs (remember there is no school for kids tomorrow)!

Happy smiling,

Zane Gothberg's Visit to The Doghouse

Zane Gothberg, goalie of the Fargo Force and former Prowler hockey player, visited our classroom to be a Mystery Reader in December. He talked with us about the importance of trying hard in school so that we can participate in sports. He also talked about how it is essential (WOW WORD!!) to be good students and make good choices in and out of the classroom. He told us about what it's like to be a hockey player for the Force. He brought gifts for each of the kids including bam-bams (I'm sure this was a parent favorite at home) and autographed pictures. We loved listening to Z is for Zamboni and seeing all of his medals and hockey gear.

THANKS ZANE!!

4th Annual Sioux/Gopher Day

We had Sioux/Gopher Day on Friday, January 13. When I arrived at school the night before this big day, I found that someone (I don't want to name names, but Mr. Wienen and Mr. Marolt) had vandalized my classroom with all sorts of Gopher decorations! Can you believe it? I also included some pictures of the fun that we had on that special day! I hope that it is a day your children will remember for the rest of their lives!

Go SIOUX!
Mrs. Delzer :)
