Our last unit in math focused on shapes (both polygons and 3-D), line segments, and symmetry. Here is a fun project we did last week to put these skills to use. I've never done this exact project but I thought we would give it a shot. Using our pattern block templates, we designed some impressive creations! Check them out below...

Today we spent the day learning all about Martin Luther King Jr.! We partner read our Scholastic News all about MLK, and discussed timelines and how to read them. We also illustrated a Martin Luther King Jr. poem and watched a movie from YouTube called My Friend Martin. We don't watch too many movies in our room, so you know this was a good one!!! In the afternoon, we drew our own MLK portraits and hung them up on the new cork board display by the office. Stop in and see our work! :)

Sioux/Gopher Day has to be one of my favorite days of the entire school year. This year was the 5th annual, and just as much fun as ever! Some of the fun things we did included: doing the Gummy Bear brain break, making hats of our favorite teams, eating Champion Chip ND ice cream, having a Mystery Reader, and watching a magic trick (THANKS MR. MAROLT)! We also took some time to send a good luck tweet to our favorite hockey player, Zane Gothberg (see posts from December about his visit to The Doghouse). What a SIOUXper day!!!

We spent part of today practicing 3-D shapes in math, and totally rocked it! We made 3-D shapes books, built pyramids with square and triangular bases, and played a 3-D shapes memory game with Miss Reese! I think we have the hang of it! Some terms we learned today include: vertices, edge, face, and base. These kids are truly amazing!
