WE ARE 100 DAYS SMARTER! :)

Whew! We recently celebrated our 100th day of being the TOP DOGS and had a blast learning all about the fabulous number 100! It feels so good to be 100 days smarter!!! To celebrate, we invited the staff and students to dress like they were 100 years old with us. Here are some pictures of our 100 year old class, and some of the **extraordinary** activities we completed throughout the day!

Your old teachers,
Mrs. Delzer and Miss Reese <3

PS We started this day off with some snow shoeing outside! We will go again this Friday at 1pm with Mr. Delzer's All Stars. Please let me know if you want to come with! :)

What a cute old little lady you are, Kendal!

Annie is doing a scavenger hunt for 100 chicks after reading Wolf's Chicken Stew.

Kylie and Lukas think the 100th day of school ROCKS!

Ethan is working on his crown.

This station included drawing 100 gumballs in our gumball machines.

At this station, we flipped a coin 100 times and tallying the results: heads or tails!

This is Kylie's station, working on our badges and crowns.

We made estimations for how many treats were in each jar. There were 100 in one of them. Can you guess which one?

Ava's old lady costume: complete with hair rollers!

A picture of the students that dressed as 100 year olds - I can't look at this picture without LOLing!

LOOKING GOOD JAKER!

"This is my costume for the 100th day party!" - Ethan

Look at these cute old ladies! :)

Super readers! We made our reading goal of 400 minutes and earned a pizza to Pizza Hut for Book It! Not pictured: Annie and Jillian.

We shared our mystery collection bags of 100 items from home. Thanks families!

We are ready for March!

Did you know March is Read Across America month? We are so ready for it and the warmer weather, too! Check out these projects we made to get ready for Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd! We can't wait!

The Cat in the Hat drawings were a two day project. First, the kids painted the blue background with tempera paint by blending a dark blue to a light blue. The next day, they drew their own Cat in the Hat and colored it with oil pastels. Finally, they cut out their drawing VERY CAREFULLY and glued it on their background they painted. Our helper, Jodi laminated them for us. I think they look awesome! Thanks, Jodi!

The other bulletin board is found right by the front office. These were so fun to make today! We took a picture of their face with our iPads, printed them out, and added some other parts to make a Cat in the Hat. I love the trees from The Lorax we put with them. It really completed the project! :) Stop by soon to see it!

PS Miss Reese and I are looking forward to parent teacher conferences tomorrow and Monday! We can't wait to share all of the amazing things you have done this year! :)

CrAzY for Arrays!!

We took our unit math test last week, and one of the major skills to learn was multiplying with arrays. We did a ton of activities to practice this important skill! We built arrays using geoboards, candy hearts, paper hearts, our "life size" array board, and even played array bingo! We have been busy, but our hard work payed off! We are doing a fabulous job with this skill! MATH IS FUN!!!

SECOND GRADE IS ARRAYZING!!! :)

Using geoboards and white boards to build arrays and write multiplication facts that match.

YUM! Candy heart arrays...

LOVE THESE ARRAYS AND KIDS!

Yes, you can eat them afterwards! :)

Shaving Cream Fun and A Phonics Game

We had a really busy week jam packed full of fun activities! Here is just a small peek at a few of the activities . . .

We wrote our spelling words in shaving cream for extra practice. This got a little messy but it was SO MUCH FUN! We also played the game Sparkle to practice our words. Who remembers that game? It brought me back to my 5th grade year at Lakota Elementary School. Classic! :) It quickly became a requested game, and we played it a few different times throughout the week. Miss Reese also played "beat the teacher" with different tables to see if she could correctly spell the words first or if the kids could.

On Friday, we played a fast-paced phonics game that reviewed digraphs and blends. The kids were split into 4 teams and had to quickly WALK up to the SMART Board to roll their die. When a digraph or blend popped up, they had to again quickly WALK back to their table and find a word on their paper that started with that blend or digraph. The first table with a blackout was the winner! I took a short video of this game and put in on the bottom of this post. A noisy classroom can be a good thing - it means the kids are interacting, communicating, cooperating, and learning!

We Have Valentines on the Brain! :)

Second grade is in charge of decorating the commons this month, so Miss Reese and I decided on a project for Valentines Day! You are going to fall for these love trees! :) The title for our project is "Spreading the Love". The Top Dogs had to work very hard on cutting out all the little hearts for this project, but it definitely paid off!

Here are a few pictures, but I think they look even better in person! Come check them out!!!

Also, I is officially OBSESSED with Chevron pattern! I found a project like this on Pinterest, and decided we HAD to make it for our lockers! We used oil pastels, tagboard, and tulle for this project. They turned out so stinkin cute! I'm in LOVE!!!!! :)

2 of my favorite things: coffee in my Sioux mug, and Chevron! :)
