Community Expo FUN!

We had a fabulous time showing off our iPad skills at the first annual TRF Community Expo! I was so impressed with the 17 kids that volunteered their time after school! All of the Top Dogs were actively engaged and staying on task the entire time! We took turns taking breaks for supper and the bounce house, of course! :) Here are some pictures from Grace, our Tweeter of the Day! She was live tweeting to our followers, by the way! :) We are tech geeks and so proud of it!!!!

Special Thanks to:
Mr. Vagle, for asking my class to demo!
Mr. Dyer, for lending us the LHS iPads!
My administration, for their continued support of all we do!
The School Board, for VOTING YES to iPads! :)
The community, for coming to see us work and asking questions!
The parents, for letting me borrow the Top Dogs after school hours!
My volunteers that came to help out, Kylie, Jodi, Melanie, and Mrs. Sletten!
THE TOP DOGS, for being so awesome and working so hard!!!

Here was our schedule for the day! :)

Mrs. Sletten and me :)

Say "cheese", Mr. Vagle! For the 47th time! :) We sure love to take pictures on our iPads!

Our live tweeter :)

These ladies are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I am so lucky to have their support and patience each day! Thanks for volunteering!

Our banner made it back to our classroom! :)

Earth Day Love

Happy Earth Day!

This month, we have learned several ways to take care of the Earth, and the importance of doing so. Here are some pictures of a few of the activities, projects and lessons we have been doing! We HEART the Earth! :)

<3 Mrs. Delzer

Mrs. Sletten read us The Lorax, and we had a great discussion about taking care of our Earth!

We also made a cause/effect flip book about taking care of the Earth.

We MUSTACHE you a question... :) Thanks for the mustaches, Mrs. Sletten!

Jodi and Ethan :)

We made Lorax applications to apply to be the next Lorax! I love this idea!

We had to tear a ton of pieces for our mosaic Earths!

Ethan showed so much patience!
Here is Coby's mosaic Earth!

This is our bulletin board by the office.

We love our hallway art and our giant Earth, too! :)

Sunday Food for Thought

As you all know, I'm working on my Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I'm taking a class right now from an AMAZING professor of literacy, Dr. Shelby Barrentine. I took some undergraduate classes from her, and I've taken 2 graduate level courses from her. She is a fabulous resource, and has taught me SO MUCH about teaching reading and writing with the Top Dogs. She is truly a literacy guru, and someone I have so much respect for!

Every week, she posts a weekly quotation to get us thinking and reflecting. This week's quote practically jumped off the page for me, and I think it speaks volumes about an overall belief our school district has. In a few short months, our district is going 1:! . Which reminds me, have you checked out Mr. Vagle's (or as the Top Dogs jokingly call him, Mr. Bagel) blog about 1:! ? I added it to our sidebar so you can easily find and visit it. Please check it out and use it as a resource to enter questions you might have, or to keep updated throughout the entire implementation process. The link to his blog is trftechspectations.blogspot.com.

Here is the quote of the week:
"For children of the 21st century, technology is like oxygen--a necessary component of their life."
from The Reading Teacher, 66(4), p. 31, Jan Lacina & Robin Griffith

What do you think? How are we satisfying this necessity in our schools for our kids? We talk about wants vs. needs in 2nd grade. Technology is a NEED, just like oxygen for our kids.

Don't forget we are working at the Expo THIS THURSDAY from 4pm-7pm at the REA! I had 15 Top Dogs sign up to help out! I CAN'T WAIT for them to WOW the community with all of the wonderful things they can do on iPads! Bring it on!

Happy Sunday,
<3 Mrs. Delzer

April Snow Showers Bring...?

Can you believe we had another snow storm today? This means winter has lasted over 8 MONTHS people! Who's ready for spring? Or as Grace says, who's ready for "Swinter" to be over? This girl is!

We started our morning off with a poem called Snow Clown. Just for fun, I thought I'd post our tweeter of the day picture too. Bobby did a great job tweeting about our learning on this short, but very busy school day. Remember, you can check out his tweets in the Twitter feed on the left.

THINK SPRING,
Mrs. Delzer <3

Measuring Maniacs!!

In our current unit in math, we are working a TON on measurement. During the last two weeks, we have been focusing on measuring in centimeters, inches, feet, yards, and meters. We have measured just about everything you can possibly think of, from people, to items around the classroom, the length of the hallway, and even sand castles! Here are pictures of us being measuring maniacs!

Note to self: never trust Kadin with a tape measure again! :)

We drew houses and measured the perimeter of them. We learned that perimeter means to measure ALL THE WAY AROUND. Right, Top Dogs? :)

Here is a flap book we made, and hung up on our lockers. We had to sort items into three categories: about an inch, about a foot, and about a yard. This was a lot of thinking and fun! :)

The rest of these pictures are from our sand castle scavenger hunt today! 9 sand castles were hidden around the room, and the Top Dogs had to estimate the height in inches, and then find the exact measurement! One of the sand castles was only one inch tall! This was the trickiest sand castle to find. So much fun! :)

This unit has been so much fun! Up next, the GallonBot!

Toodles,
Mrs. Delzer <3
