Daily 3: Doghouse Style

Hi families, friends, and teacher friends around the world!
Here is a peek at what our Daily 3 program looks like in The Doghouse. Daily 3 is a twist on Daily 5. You can read more about Daily 5 by clicking here.

Round 1 lasts 30 minutes and Round 2 and 3 are 20 minutes each. A read aloud and minilesson are taught before Round 1, so in all our Reading Workshop lasts about 90 minutes. We do a separate, additional writing workshop in the afternoon for about 45 minutes each day!

We love our Daily 3 time! Students complete all 3 rounds, but stop and drop whatever they are working on when I call their reading family over for guided reading. Here are some pictures of what Daily 3 looks like, and the schedule for Daily 3 this week is also posted! :)

Meet with Teacher/Guided Reading

Meet with Teacher is not included, because students come to me everyday at varied times.  I like having this schedule on the SmartBoard so I can easily move around the icons and the kids can see and hear the timer easily. Also, I just can't justify using wall space for a big schedule like this! :) I also like that the Top Dogs can see this schedule from anywhere in the room!

Sight Word Bingo!

Has your Top Dog told you about Sight Word Bingo? I think it is our favorite game to play!

We made bingo cards with 24 of our sight words and we all snuggle up on the mat for a fun time. I am a firm believer in making learning fun and purposeful! This game does just that! We love reviewing our sight words!

Jeremy helped me call out the words today, and we had time for a few rounds. Here are some pictures! :)

2 New TPT Products!

Hi families and friends!

Did you know I sell some of the things I make for our classroom on a website called Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT)? It is an awesome resource for teachers because it allows teachers to sell amazing products to other teachers! I have bought a lot of great stuff for our classroom on this website. It is such a great feeling when I hear from other teachers that the things I have made help their kids too! :)

Last weekend, I made 2 more products that we will be using in the next two weeks! Has your Top Dog told you about flip flap books? We LOVE them! They are a lot of fun and are simple to use and understand. They help us practice our skills and serve as a nice assessment for me!

This flip flap book will help us sort fall words by syllables!
We will use this flip flap book to sort fall nouns!

Teacher friends: you can pick up these products by visiting my store at teacherspayteachers.com/store/kayla-delzer! :)

A Peek at Our Week: Twitter Edition

All of the pictures from this post came straight from our Twitter feed and our Tweeters of the Day! Your kids are amazing at tweeting and do such a great job documenting our learning each day! We are learning how to be good digital citizens and connect with other schools, authors, parents, and teachers! Tweeting is an important part of our day! Here are some pictures the tweeters posted this week! Enjoy!

This was our Friday minilesson during reading workshop.

We made fact family houses to show how three numbers can be related through addition and subtraction.

We also worked on Missing Addends this week! This is a very tough concept!

Here was today's quick quiz! Every child got it right! Whoot Whoot!

We read for thirty minutes straight during Read to Self! I love this picture of Gabe! We were SO excited!

We organized some Halloween words into ABC order.

We made equation chains in math!

We had a record number of Top Dogs at the top of the chart this week!!! YAY!

We organized our spelling words by syllables!

This is another reading minilesson we learned this week!

So, what do you think? If you're not following us on Twitter yet, you should be!!! You can go to Twitter.com  or click the Twitter icon right here on this page to sign up for free! Be sure to follow @TweetingTopDogs for lots of fantastic tweets from the Top Dogs!

Falling for Math!

Hi friends and families!

We have been working really hard on learning our facts in math. We learned that partner numbers can sometimes be called flip flop numbers or turn around facts. Here are some math projects we have been working on in addition to our math workbooks! We also use our iPads everyday to help us practice our math facts quickly! Math is one of our favorite times of the day! :)

These are hanging on our Wall of Fame clips in our classroom.

This display is by the office!
