Compare and Contrast Writing

We have recently spent a large chunk of time comparing and contrasting objects, and writing about it. This is a very important skill for students to have as they become stronger writers. We made several charts, and this is our most recent example. I really love the format of this chart, and I think it does so much more than a Venn Diagram can. This particular form of writing allows your students to use higher order thinking skills, analyze pairs of ideas, organize key content, highlight important details, and so much more. This chart later gets turned into paragraph form writing by the students.

We had to do some extra research with Google once we got to the bottom of the chart. Did you know orange cider and orange bread are real things? Your kids never cease to amaze me. Things that were the same got a check mark, while we wrote the contrasting details out. All of this came from the brains of YOUR KIDS!
