Student Led Professional Development at ET2014

On Monday, January 20, teachers from all over the region gathered at Lincoln High School to spend the day attending technology workshops. I was able to present three different sessions. Seriously, I have the best job in the world! I am able to teach kids at CES and train teachers on technology topics!

My first session was all about how I connect with other teachers throughout the world using my Personal Learning Network (PLN) on Instagram, Twitter, Blogger, Teachers Pay Teachers, and Pinterest. I got lots of teachers to join Instagram and Twitter to start building their PLNs! Mission accomplished!

My second session was an overview of how I incorporate iPads throughout my day and integrate technology throughout my day in every subject I teach. Technology should not occur only at a set time during the day. I truly think that technology is now part of our jobs as teachers. We can choose to embrace and integrate it, or be replaced by teachers that do!

You can find resources used in both of those sessions by clicking this link.

Now... for the super fun part! I brought in 16 of my students from this year's class to teach session 3! My students are the true technology experts, and I gave them the responsibility during this session and they rocked the house!!! I was just the facilitator for this final session. I set a timer, talked briefly about which app the students would be teaching, and let them roll with it! I believe that when students are given an opportunity like this, they truly are allowed to shine!  I was SO PROUD and IMPRESSED with them! Thank you families for dropping them off and picking them up! Here are some pictures of my students teaching teachers on a day off from school!

Thank you Mr. Vagle for making a Storify of the tweets from this conference!

  1. Wow Kayla! I am so bummed that I missed out on this! I bet you were buzzing with adrenaline after these three sessions! I absolutely love that you organized your students to come in and help you with the last session. I bet they were so proud to show off what they knew! Amazing girl! I am so envious of you making this happen and running your own workshops!

  2. I love how you did this! I am definitely suggesting to my colleagues as we are about to plunge into the 1:1 waters... not sure in our rural area how many of our kiddos are proficient with devices but it is worth checking into! Thanks for sharing!!!
